What Is HDPE PE100

HDPE PE100 refers to high density polyethylene materials with a minimum required strength (MRS) of 10.0MPa. The MRS here is the minimum value of the long-term hydrostatic strength determined by the internal pressure test under the conditions of 20°C and 50 years of service life. It is an important indicator for measuring the pressure resistance of the material. The determination of the PE100 grade provides a clear material performance standard for application scenarios such as pressure pipes, ensuring the safety and reliability of related products during long-term use. As an important category of high density polyethylene, HDPE PE100 has a wide range of critical applications in many fields such as pressure pipes, and has become a popular material in the industry with its excellent performance.

Performance Characteristics

  • Excellent pressure resistance. As a PE100 grade material, one of its core properties is strong pressure resistance. It can withstand high internal pressure in long-term use and meet the needs of pipeline systems of different pressure levels. For example, in high-pressure scenarios such as drinking water transportation and natural gas transportation, it can play a stable role and effectively avoid problems such as pipeline rupture caused by excessive pressure.
  • Excellent crack resistance. PE100 pipe grade has good resistance to slow crack growth (SCG) and rapid crack propagation (RCP). During the use of the pipeline, it may be affected by external environmental stress, temperature changes and other factors, and HDPE PE100 material can effectively prevent the generation and expansion of cracks, greatly extending the service life of the pipeline and improving the safety of the system.
  • Good chemical corrosion resistance. It has strong chemical stability, is insoluble in most organic solvents at room temperature, and can resist corrosion from a variety of chemical substances such as acids, alkalis, and salts. This makes it perform well in pipelines that transport corrosive media, such as industrial wastewater transportation, chemical raw material transportation, etc., reducing material damage caused by chemical corrosion.
  • Excellent weather resistance. By adding appropriate additives (such as carbon black), HDPE PE100 materials have good weather resistance and can resist the influence of natural environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays, temperature changes, and humidity. Even in long-term outdoor use or buried environments, it is not easy to age and degrade, and maintains stable performance.
  • Excellent processing performance. Most HDPE PE100 materials have a reasonable molecular weight distribution, which enables them to show good fluidity and formability during processing such as extrusion and injection molding. The processing process is stable and can produce products of various specifications and shapes to meet the needs of different application scenarios, while improving production efficiency.
  • Long service life. Under normal use conditions, products such as pipes made of HDPE PE100 materials can have a service life of more than 50 years. This long life feature not only reduces replacement and maintenance costs, but also reduces the impact on the environment, which is in line with the concept of sustainable development.

Main Applications

(1) Pressure pipeline system

  • Drinking water pipeline. PE100 meets strict hygiene standards, will not pollute water quality, and has good corrosion resistance and pressure resistance. It is an ideal choice for drinking water pipelines and can ensure the safe transportation of drinking water.
  • Natural gas pipeline. Natural gas transportation has extremely high requirements for the safety and sealing of pipelines. The high strength, crack propagation resistance and good flexibility of PE100 materials enable it to adapt to the high pressure and complex terrain conditions during natural gas transportation, ensuring the stability and safety of natural gas transportation.
  • Industrial pressure pipeline. In industrial production, it is necessary to transport various media with a certain pressure, such as chemical raw materials, industrial wastewater, etc. The chemical corrosion resistance and pressure resistance of HDPE PE100 enable it to meet the use requirements of industrial pressure pipelines and ensure the smooth progress of industrial production.
  • Municipal drainage pipeline. In the municipal drainage system, the pipeline needs to withstand a certain external pressure and internal water flow pressure, and at the same time resist erosion by various substances in the soil. The strength and corrosion resistance of PE100 materials make it widely used in municipal drainage pipelines, improving the reliability of the drainage system.

(2) Other fields. In addition to pressure piping systems, HDPE PE100 materials can also be used to manufacture some products that need to withstand a certain pressure or have good corrosion resistance, such as large containers and storage tanks. It also has certain applications in the chemical industry, agriculture and other fields.
