Main Advantages of POE Vistamaxx 6102

  • Enhances flexibility in PP/PE blends
  • Improves impact resistance at room and low temperatures
  • Enhances sealability in packaging film
  • Improves soft touch haptics in consumer products
  • Excellent compatibility in compounding and extrusion
  • Good recyclability with polyolefin streams
  • Enables high filler loading in masterbatches

Main Applications

1. Polypropylene (PP) Toughening and Flexibility Modification

Exxonmobil Vistamaxx™ 6102 is widely used as an impact modifier for polypropylene (PP) to improve toughness, flexibility and stress crack resistance, especially at low temperatures. When blended with PP, it reduces brittleness, increases elongation, and enhances durability without compromising recyclability. This makes it suitable for injection-molded parts, rigid packaging, automotive components, and household products that require higher flexibility.

2. Film Applications and Packaging Seal Layer

In film production, Vistamaxx 6102 is used to enhance sealing performance, softness and tear resistance. It lowers the heat-sealing temperature and improves sealing strength and clarity, which is ideal for multilayer packaging films, cast films, stretch films, and hygiene packaging. The excellent compatibility with PE and PP makes it easy to incorporate into existing film formulations.

3. Filler Masterbatch Carrier Resin

Because of its strong bonding capability and high filler acceptance, Vistamaxx™ 6102 is commonly used as a carrier resin for high-load calcium carbonate and talc masterbatches. It allows for high filler dispersion while maintaining flexibility and processing stability. This is especially beneficial in cost-optimized formulations for film extrusion, injection parts, and sheet production.

4. Adhesion and Compatibility Enhancer

POE Vistamaxx 6102 improves the compatibility between polyolefins and polar or inorganic additives, helping to bridge formulation gaps during compounding. It promotes stronger interlayer adhesion in laminated films and enhances dispersion in filled compounds. It is also used as a coupling aid between polypropylene and elastomeric or recycled polymers.

5. Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) Formulations

Polyolefin elastomer POE Vistamaxx™ 6102 is widely used in soft-touch TPE compounds due to its elastic recovery, low hardness and excellent mixing performance. When blended with PP or other elastomers like EPDM or SEBS, it produces soft, elastic TPE materials suitable for handles, grips, household products, flexible parts and general consumer goods.

6. Automotive TPO and Interior Components

In the automotive industry, Vistamaxx™ 6102 is used in polypropylene-based thermoplastic olefin (TPO) compounds to improve flexibility, impact strength, and scratch resistance. It enhances ductility and surface quality while maintaining lightweight performance, making it suitable for dashboards, trim panels, and interior soft parts.

7. Wire and Cable Applications

Due to its good flexibility and electrical insulation properties, POE Vistamaxx™ 6102 is used in wire and cable jacketing to improve softness, abrasion resistance and processability. It also provides good heat stability and is suitable for low-smoke, halogen-free cable formulations.

8. Hot-Melt Adhesives and Elastic Nonwovens

In adhesive applications, Vistamaxx™ 6102 provides strong tack, low sealing temperature and excellent compatibility with tackifying resins. It is used in hot-melt adhesives for packaging, woodworking and hygiene products. In nonwoven elastic films used for diapers and medical products, it offers softness, stretch and elastic recovery.

9. Recycled Polyolefin Enhancement

This resin is commonly used to upgrade recycled polypropylene (rPP) and recycled polyethylene (rPE). It restores flexibility, reduces brittleness and improves mechanical properties, enabling greater use of recycled materials in sustainable production.

Processing Guidelines

  • Processable on standard polyolefin extrusion and injection molding equipment
  • Typical melt temperature: 180–230 °C
  • Compatible with PP, PE, mPE, and EVA
  • May require vented screw design for high filler compounding
  • Drying not required under normal storage conditions
