PVC SG3 is a suspension polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin with a low polymerization degree and high K-value 72-71. It has a relatively low molecular weight and good flowability. Compared with PVC SG5 and PVC SG8, SG3 exhibits higher viscosity, better transparency, and higher plasticization efficiency. It is widely used in the production of soft PVC products, such as hoses, cable compounds, films, artificial leather, and coated products.

Performance Characteristics of PVC SG3

  • Excellent Processing Performance. PVC SG3 offers outstanding melt flow and rapid plasticization. Its relatively short polymer chains allow internal relaxation, making it easier to melt upon heating and quickly combine with plasticizers. This property ensures high production efficiency in extrusion, injection molding, calendering, casting, and blow molding processes. Its thermal stability is moderate; when used with calcium-zinc or organotin stabilizer systems, processing can be carried out at relatively low temperatures, reducing the risk of thermal decomposition and yellowing.
  • Good Formulation Compatibility. The SG3 is highly compatible with common PVC additives. It exhibits excellent absorption and swelling with widely used plasticizers (such as DOP, DINP, TOTM, DOA), enabling the production of highly transparent and flexible products. It also blends well with various stabilizers, fillers, and lubricants without noticeable phase separation, offering broad formulation adaptability.
  • Outstanding Transparency and Appearance. Due to its low polymerization degree and uniform particle structure, PVC SG3 can produce products with high transparency and good gloss. It is particularly suitable for transparent films, food-grade packaging, clear hoses, and crystal-soft sheets. Products made from SG3 have a fine, smooth surface without visible gel particles or fisheyes, making it a preferred material for soft, transparent items.
  • Balanced Softness and Mechanical Properties. Although PVC resin SG3 is inherently a rigid resin, its low polymerization degree allows excellent flexibility when combined with plasticizers, while maintaining good tensile and tear strength. Soft products made from SG3 feel smooth and supple, resist brittleness at low temperatures, and are not prone to stress cracking or performance degradation. They exhibit good bending resistance and fatigue durability.
  • Excellent Electrical Insulation Properties. SG3 naturally has high volume resistivity and stable dielectric performance, making it widely used in the wire and cable industry for sheath and insulation layers. In medium- and low-voltage cables, its electrical properties remain stable, unaffected by humidity or environmental conditions, making it a highly reliable insulating material.
  • Good Chemical Stability. This resin exhibits inherent resistance to acids and bases and demonstrates good chemical resistance to most inorganic acids, alcohols, and oils. This makes it suitable for hoses transporting chemical liquids, oil-resistant transparent hoses, and industrial anti-corrosion tapes. However, it is sensitive to certain ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons; prolonged exposure may cause swelling.
  • Environmental and Safety Aspects. SG3 is a non-toxic resin that meets conventional international environmental standards. When processed using lead-free stabilizers, such as calcium-zinc systems, it can comply with EU RoHS, REACH, and other environmental regulations. Being recyclable, it also offers good economic and sustainability benefits.
