PP Z30S is a high melt flow rate PP homopolymer injection molding grade pellet, produced from propylene as the main raw material via bulk polymerization. It is characterized by high rigidity, high flowability, and low shrinkage, making it especially suitable for high-speed injection molding and thin-wall product manufacturing. This resin is commonly used in industrial parts, home appliance components, food packaging containers, and household goods.

These Chinese manufacturers primarily produce the Z30S grade, including Sinopec Maoming, Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company, and PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company. While the additive systems may vary slightly between manufacturers, the overall performance is relatively stable, making it a mature and widely adopted grade in the industry.

Main Features of PP Z30S

(1) Medium-to-High Melt Index and Spinning Compatibility

Melt flow rate (MFR) is the key performance indicator. With a medium-to-high MFR of 18–32 g/10min, PP Z30S exhibits balanced flowability and melt strength under testing conditions of 230°C/2.16 kg. It is suitable for high-speed spinning and extrusion molding, with spinning speeds increased by more than 15% compared to standard PP. It also reduces issues such as breaks and fuzz, while significantly improving filament uniformity. This feature ensures high production efficiency while providing a solid foundation for high-strength products.

(2) Molecular Structure and Mechanical Stability

  • High Crystallinity and Strength: A high isotactic index ensures regular molecular chain arrangement, resulting in excellent mechanical properties. Tensile strength reaches 32–35 MPa, flexural modulus exceeds 1490 MPa, significantly higher than ordinary PP, while notched impact strength reaches 3 kJ/m², achieving a balance of rigidity and toughness.
  • Low Impurities and Processing Stability: Optimized processes result in low ash content (≤0.03%) and minimal gel formation (less than 10 pieces of 0.8 mm gels per 1520 cm²), combined with a color stability with yellowness index ≤4.0, ensuring uniform appearance and reduced processing defects.

(3) Environmental Resistance and Eco-Friendliness

Sinopec PP Z30S exhibits excellent chemical resistance, withstanding acids, bases, and various salts at room temperature. It also has excellent electrical insulation properties, with a usable temperature up to 100°C, suitable for a variety of environments. As a thermoplastic resin, it can be recycled after melting, meeting circular economy requirements. Recycled material can be used in non-food-contact products.

Processing and Usage Guidelines

  • Drying: The material has extremely low moisture absorption (≤0.03%) and normally does not require pre-drying. If long-term exposure causes moisture uptake, dry at 80–90°C for 1–2 hours.
  • Processing Temperature: Recommended melt temperature is 210–260°C; exceeding 270°C may cause degradation. For spinning, adjust temperature according to filament diameter, with fine denier filaments suitable for 250–260°C.
  • Modification and Extended Applications: Adding antioxidants and UV absorbers can improve aging resistance for outdoor applications. Impact modification through blending can expand its use to home appliance parts, electronic housings, and other high-demand applications.
